ABOUT THE PROGRAM
What is Jr. Cavs?
Jr. Cavs is the youth basketball program of the Cleveland Cavaliers, run locally by Bluffton YMCA in partnership with the Cavaliers organization. It’s part of the Cavaliers’ broader mission to inspire kids to stay active, build confidence, and make good choices on and off the court, and it’s built around skill development, teamwork, and having fun.
How is Jr. Cavs connected to the Cleveland Cavaliers?
Jr. Cavs carries the Cavaliers’ name and branding and follows program standards set by the team. Bluffton YMCA runs the day-to-day program locally, using our own facilities, coaches, and schedule.
Is Jr. Cavs recreational or competitive?
Most Jr. Cavs divisions are recreational and focus on fundamentals, sportsmanship, and participation over win-loss records. Older divisions may introduce more competitive play.

What age groups does Bluffton YMCA offer?
Jr. Cavs divisions at YMCA is offered for grades K-4 both boys and girls.
My child has never played basketball before. Is that okay?
Yes. Our divisions are built for a range of experience levels.
Do you offer programming for athletes with disabilities?
Some Jr. Cavs partner leagues offer adaptive or unified sports programming to make the game accessible to athletes with disabilities.
Bluffton does not offer an adaptive program at this time. Please feel free to call to see if our regular program will work for your child.
REGISTRATION & COST
How much does it cost, and how do I register?
Registration costs $55 for members and $70 for non members for the 2027 season. Register at www.Blufftonymca.net by November 29.
What does the registration fee cover?
Registration fees typically cover a season’s worth of practices and league games, along with a team jersey or shirt.
2 tickets for a Cavs game are also included for each registered player!
Is there a sibling discount or financial assistance available?
Sponsorships for reduced prices are available. Please see the front desk for more information.
What is your refund or cancellation policy?
Registrations are non-refundable after the November 29th deadline.
Is there a waitlist if a division is full?
If a division fills up, most leagues maintain a waitlist and reach out to families as spots open.
SEASON DETAILS
When does the season run?
January 4th through February 5th with practices and games at Bluffton YMCA. K-3 will practice and play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 4th Grade will practice on Mondays and play games on Saturdays.
How often are practices and games?
Most Jr. Cavs divisions practice once or twice a week, with one game on weekends during the season

How are teams formed, and can we request a coach or teammate?
Teams are typically formed by age and grade and balanced for skill level. Coach or teammate requests aren’t guaranteed but are often considered when possible.
What happens if practice or a game is canceled for weather?
If severe weather affects a practice or game, leagues typically notify families as early as possible and reschedule when feasible.
We will send an email, post to facebook , and text coaches when possible.
COACHES & SAFETY
Who coaches Jr. Cavs teams at Bluffton YMCA?
Jr. Cavs coaches are typically volunteers, including parents, who are recruited and trained by the local partner league.
Do coaches go through a background check?
Jr. Cavs partner leagues are expected to conduct background checks on coaches and volunteers who have direct contact with athletes.
Yes, Bluffton YMCA youth sports coaches are background checked.
What’s your policy on injuries or medical concerns during practices and games?
Coaches are expected to have a basic first aid plan in place, notify parents promptly of any injury, and follow standard emergency procedures, including calling 911 for serious injuries.
The sports and program coordinator and front desk is available to assist coaches with these events.
Can my child get an accommodation for a medical condition or disability?
Families are encouraged to reach out ahead of the season to discuss any accommodations their child may need.
GAME DAY & LOGISTICS
What does my child need to bring?
Athletes should bring athletic clothing, sneakers, and a water bottle to every practice and game.
Please bring a basketball as well.
Is a uniform or jersey provided?
Most Jr. Cavs leagues provide a jersey or shirt as part of registration.
A reversable Cavs jersey is provided.
Can family and friends come to games?
Family and friends are welcome at games.
How will I get updates about schedule changes or league news?
Leagues typically share schedule updates and news by email, text alert, or a team app.
POLICIES & CONDUCT
What is expected of parents and spectators?
Families and spectators are expected to be positive and supportive of both teams, and to follow the direction of coaches and officials.
Will my child’s photo or video be used for league or Jr. Cavs promotion?
By participating, families should expect that photos or video from practices and games may be used for league or Jr. Cavs marketing.
